General:
-
Pick up and transfer from the airport to your
accommodation
-
Each student is assigned a cultural adaptation
counsellor and personal tutor who will always have time
for you when you need someone.
-
At
your first meeting with your personal cultural adaptation
counsellor / tutor, you will get a small packet with basic
Gay and General information about Mexico City, including a
city map, a list of gay places (via Ser Gay paper magazine: www.sergay.com.mx), public
transportation, a couple of metro tickets as souvenirs, a
couple of condoms, and a list of emergency numbers, (which
includes a safe taxi and your Embassy’s numbers),
information about cinemas, cultural events etc.
The courses:
-
All courses include a daily class in cultural matters
and with an introduction to Mexican history, anthropology,
literature etc.
-
At the day of their first class, all students will
undergo an oral and written test to determine level.
-
Each course is terminated with an oral and written
examination. At the advanced levels, in the literature,
history and culture classes, an essay on a given topic
replaces the written examination (Selected essays may be
published in Enkidu Web Edition if the student agrees).
Depending on course or level, the essays are normally due
between 5 or 10 days after the assignment is given.
The Enkidu Cultural Centre
-
During the breaks and in the Afternoons until 18:00h (Tuesdays until 14:00h), the students will have unlimited
access to the Enkidu Cultural Centre’s facilities, like
its multimedia-room and the Enkidu library with a wide
selection of literature in different fields. Students with
essay assignments may also use the multimedia room during
the weekends and in the evenings (with the exception of
Tuesdays when all ECC-facilities close at 14:00). The
available resources include computers with Internet access,
scanner, colour-printer, as well as a DVD-player,
videos etc.
Social and Cultural Activities:
-
Every second week, a welcome diner is held in the
Enkidu Cultural Centre where new students have an
opportunity to get to know each other and meet the old
students, the teachers and sometimes also host families
join us.
-
A guided Tour of Mexico City with one Enkidu Cultural
Guide is included in every program.
-
In addition to the language and culture classes,
frequently additional courses in art, drama, painting,
Mexican song and dance etc are organised in the evenings
by creative members of the Enkidu Team or invited external
teachers.
-
A trip to one archaeological site in the area around
Mexico City (mostly Tula, Malinalco or Xochicalco) is
always included. Such trips are mostly organised on
Thursdays, meaning that some Thursday classes may be moved
to Saturday (if the students agree), or one additional
hour of instruction will be added on the other days of the
week.
The Host families:
Accomodation for
Participants in our language and culture courses
Your host
family will provide a private room, a bed with bedclothes,
towels, a desk, a chair, a place for you to put your
cloth, 3 meals a day, access to shower and other
necessities. Only very few host families can provide a
private bathroom for the students. Some students will have
an output for their computer, a telephone line, or perhaps
a television set in their rooms, but we cannot guarantee
that such extras are available in all host families. If
you depend on for instance a private Internet connection
during your stay, tell us in advance, and we will see what
we can do. However, we cannot always guarantee success.
